What we collect on this website

This site uses Vercel Web Analytics (sometimes referred to as Vercel Insights). It collects anonymous, aggregated usage data to help us understand how the site is used. The script is served from /_vercel/insights/script.js and does not use cookies for tracking. The data collected includes things like:

  • Pages viewed and the order you visit them
  • Referrer (the site you came from)
  • Approximate geographic region (derived from your IP, not your exact address)
  • Browser, device type, and operating system
  • Screen size and whether you're on a desktop or mobile device

None of this is used to identify you personally, and it is not sold or shared with advertisers.

Minecraft server data

When you play on the ZanMC server, standard gameplay data is processed by the server software (player name, in-game actions, chat, and approximate location for latency). This is needed to run the server and keep it safe. We do not sell player data.

AI chat recap (Cerebras)

Once an hour, the last 60 minutes of public server chat is sent to Cerebras' API by our server plugin to generate a short, anonymous "What's happening on ZanMC?" recap. The generated recap is posted to this site and shown on the News page. The AI is instructed to strip out names, IPs, tokens, @mentions, invite links, and offensive language, so the published recap should contain no personal data.

Cerebras runs our recap requests under a Strict Zero Data Retention (ZDR) policy. Under ZDR, Cerebras does not log your requests and does not train on or retain your text — the chat is processed in memory to produce the summary and is then discarded. It is never used to improve their models.

Only the generated summary — never the raw chat log — is stored by this website.

AI chat bot (Google Gemini)

Our Discord chat bot is a server bot you can talk with — it does not create a user account or profile for you. The only data it keeps locally is an optional interaction memory that is only written when the bot's name is triggered in chat. It is powered by the Google Gemini API (Unpaid Tier).

Data Processing and Deletion Limits

To provide this service, our chat bot utilizes the Google Gemini API (Unpaid Tier). By using this bot, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

  • Third-Party Processing: Your text prompts and generated responses are processed by Google LLC to provide and improve their AI models.
  • Irrevocable Storage: Because Google anonymizes and completely detaches this data from our bot's developer account upon receipt, historical chat data cannot be retrieved, modified, or deleted upon request.
  • No User Profile: The bot does not store a user profile or settings for you. The only local data is the interaction memory described above, which we can clear on request, and we will stop sending any new data to the AI. However, we cannot remove past prompts already transmitted to Google. Please do not share sensitive or personally identifiable information with the bot.

Staff accounts & cookies

If you have a staff account, we store your username and a hashed password so you can post news. When you sign in, a signed session cookie is set in your browser so you stay logged in. This cookie is HttpOnly and is not used for advertising.

Discord account linking

Staff members can optionally link a Discord account to their staff profile. When you do, we store your Discord user ID and (if available) your Discord username so you can sign in with Discord and so we can send you security-related messages. We do not read your Discord messages, friends list, or anything beyond the ID and username you authorize through Discord's OAuth login.

Our Discord bot may send you direct messages for account-security purposes only — for example, a login notification when you sign in, or a verification code when you unlink your Discord account or delete your staff account. Those sensitive actions require two-factor confirmation: your ZanMC account password and the verification code we send to your Discord DM. If the bot cannot reach you (for example, it is not a member of your server), the code is shown to you in your profile settings so you can still complete the action. These messages are automated and contain no advertising.

You can unlink your Discord account at any time from your profile settings. Unlinking removes the stored Discord ID and username from your staff profile, after which we can no longer message you on Discord.

Your choices

Because Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless and anonymous, there is nothing to opt out of at the browser level. If you would rather not be counted at all, you can use a content blocker or browser setting that prevents the insights script from loading.
